Global Sports Nostalgia Co. Releases NBA Jersey With Black Band That Honors Sheri Berto.
As part of their ongoing partnership with Michael Jordan and the Jordan brand, Mitchell & Ness will release the 1991-92 Michael Jordan «The Shrug» Chicago Bulls Limited Edition Authentic Home Jersey. Retailing at $275, the jersey release marks the 23rd anniversary of Game 1 of the 1992 NBA Finals.
On June 3, 1992, the Chicago Bulls faced the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. In the first half of the game Jordan made six 3-pointers in 35 minutes. As he jogged back down the court after making one of the 3-pointers, he looked at Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, at the time an announcer, and shrugged his shoulders in astonishment. «The Shrug» was born.
Mitchell & Ness is producing this jersey for the first time, on the 23rdanniversary of this historic night in which the Bulls defeated the Trailblazers 122-89 and Jordan recorded 39 points. The Bulls wore the black band on the left shoulder of the jersey during the latter part of the 1991-92 NBA season in remembrance of Sheri Berto, a long-time and beloved team employee who passed away on November 23, 1991.
Sheri was so highly regarded in the Bulls’ organization that the team’s new training facility was named The Sheri Berto Center in her honor the following September. Marv Albert’s call, «Did you see that look? Michael indicating he can’t believe it!»
