Tourneau, the nation’s leading retailer of luxury timepieces for more than a century, will begin preparing for Daylight Saving Time on Friday, October 30th when Tourneau watch professionals across the country take on the arduous task of updating more than 100,000 timepieces from the over 100 brands carried by the retailer. While Daylight Saving Time, which takes place at 2 a.m. onSunday, November 1st, is routinely one of the busiest times for watch repair, Tourneau strives to assist watch owners in keeping their timepieces looking sharp all year round.

Terry Irby, Tourneau’s «Watch Doctor» and Vice President of Technical Service, recommends using Daylight Saving as a reminder on the importance of watch maintenance. «Daylight Saving Time provides the perfect opportunity to perform a watch check-up and learn best practices for watch care,» says Terry Irby. «While adjusting your watch may seem simple, many valuable pieces require a skilled hand to adjust the time and the more complicated watches require a professional reset to prevent damage.»

Tourneau has the largest factory authorized service center in the United States and includes a fully staffed service department in every store. Tourneau also offers complimentary estimates for all domestic repairs. Terry recommends the following timepiece maintenance tips to help watch owners keep their timepieces in top shape all year round:

  • The resetting of a watch should never be done on the wrist. Always take the watch off so as not to break the stem (where the crown and bezel connect).
  • Never change a watch during the hours of 9p.m. and 3a.m. During this time, the watch gears are engaged to change the calendar, so changing the time can easily cause breakage.
  • We recommend coming into any of Tourneau’s stores for a time reset, especially for complicated watches and perpetual movements that have a higher chance of breakage while changing the time.
  • Daylight Saving Time is also a good time to bring your watch in to Tourneau to have it demagnetized. With all of the technology around us, a magnetic field can throw off a watch’s timekeeping – causing a watch to run fast.
