An Elegant Tissot for a Golden Alba Torrens

The women's basketball team was proclaimed, last Sunday, champion for the third time in their history of the Eurobasket played in the Czech Republic. Alba Torrens was the MVP of the tournament.

Outside the USA, dominating both male and female basketball, it is very difficult to contemplate an exhibition like the one shown last week by Spain´s  Women  Basketball Team. They surpassed Latvia by a 22-point margin in the quarter-finals, a strong Belgian national team, which had high scorers, left it at 52 points in the semi-finals. In the final, Spain dominated from start to finish without at any time the French players showed any capacity to reduce differences that became up to 21 points.

It was a special match for our captain Laia Palau, as she participated in her last match with the team with which she has won medals in Europeans, World Cups and Olympic Games. In the last, those of Rio 2016, she and the rest of the team got a  very  valuable silver medal against the powerful  USA players.

A successful tactic. An absolute effort
The success of our team was forged in that, to be a team integrated, delivered in the effort and the generosity and with a brilliant direction on the part of Lucas Mondelo and his assistance team. The defensive solidity of our players, the whole block, made it difficult for our opponents to score easy baskets.

To finish off this remarkable approach and effort, they needed the immense talent of three players in the grand final: Anna Cruz, our particular WNBA champion (female version of the NBA) who was superb but gave the lead, first to Sancho Lyttle who in the final looked like the female version of Kevin Durant (champion and best player of the NBA final this year). Just  immense and accurate. Clumsy were the members of the organization that deprived her of a Tissot that did receive the top five players of the championship, including a Belgian center E. Meesseman, who did not even shade Lyttle on the day of the semifinal.

The trophy for the Most Valuable Player – a trophy along with an elegant Tissot – could only be for our forward Alba Torrens, simply immeasurable, very fast on the fast break, with vision in the pass, rebounding more than 10 times in the final and very accurate from the line of 3 points. Exercising the leadership from the generosity and her permanent smile, because its true that the very good atmosphere that reigns in the team in the field and outside of it, is another key of the success of a group that has played 5 finals in 6 years winning two of them, while fighting bravely in other two of them versus  the USA.

Alba Torrens has an enviable track record both as a player of the Spanish team and in the various clubs in which she has participated, with which she has won, among others, three Euroleague titles. Next year will see the faces again the two best national teams of the planet, in the World Championship  that will take place in Spain. The fundamentals of the Spanish team are very solid and they will surely be in the fight for top places.

TISSOT, once again, together with FIBA basketball
In 2008, Tissot partners with FIBA (International Basketball Federation). The alliance with such an international sport as basketball underlines the brand’s dynamic nature and its values of precision and performance. Tissot then further added French star Tony Parker as one of its main brand ambassadors. The partnership underlines Tissot’s ever-growing commitment to basketball on a worldwide level. A  sport dominated in both , women and men, in the first place and with much distance over the second by the USA, followed (with a lot of distance on the third) by Spain.

This summer in a Eurobasket that will take place, as in the previous edition, in venues of several European countries, our men’s team led by the Gasol brothers (and their successors, the Hernángomez brothers) and Ricky Rubio, will have occasion to match the success of our women. Overcoming their result will be impossible, as will be impossible to overcome the overwhelming dominance of the Women’s Team in this newly finished Eurobasket of Prague.
