Jackie Kennedy’s Most Special Watch Sold
Cartier's watch was a gift from his brother-in-law Stas Radziwill.
Just two days ago our colleague Daniel Nicols told us about the auction of a unique piece, the ‘Ring of Reconciliation’ designed by Pablo Picasso and today we want to talk about another special auction, the Jacqueline Kennedy watch that took place this week in New York. It is a piece that the former first lady wore on numerous occasions and can be seen in several historical photos.
This is a Cartier given away by his brother-in-law, Prince Stanislaw ‘Stas’ Radziwill and is engraved with «Stas to Jackie 23 Feb. 63 2:05 am to 9:35 pm.» The times in the engraving were Radziwell’s start and finish times for the 1963 50 Mile Hike in Palm Beach, Florida, according to Christie’s. The watch has finally been sold at $ 379,000.
A 1963 painting by Jacqueline Kennedy will accompany the sale of her watch, according to Christie’s. At the bottom of the painting, she wrote, «February 23, 1963 2:05 am to 9:35 pm Jackie to Stas with love and admiration.»
