Dior Watchmaking: between haute couture and ready-to-wear
Equipped with the “Dior Inversé 11 1/2” calibre, the new Dior VIII Grand Bal “Envol” models present a new face, making a strong graphic statement with real animated artworks recalling the spare modernist allure of the Haute Couture collections designed by Raf Simons. The dial is covered with scarab beetle elytra marquetry whose iridescent reflections have fascinated humankind since Antiquity.
Placed on top of the dial, the oscillating weight is also presented like a modern artwork, featuring mother-of-pearl, gold, lacquer and baguette-cut diamonds designed in a spiral motif. Each movement of the wrist sets off special light effects blending the sparkle of diamonds and white gold on the dial into one and the same hypnotic movement. One-of-a-kind pieces.
A new Dior VIII Montaigne model comes to complete the collection in a seasonal Spring-Summer 2015 edition. Its combination of materials, finishes and colours are perfectly in keeping with Dior’s modern ready-to-wear spirit.
This 32mm Dior VIII Montaigne timepiece is adorned with a shimmering dial, tinted in translucent dark blue lacquer, hemmed in diamonds and touches of pink gold, as well as a white calfskin strap lined in peach-coloured rubber. Boutique exclusivity.
The Dior VIII Grand Bal collection is enriched with a new model combining the know-how of the Haute Couture art of feather-making with watchmaking technology. This timepiece gives pride of place to exquisitely delicate and feminine feathers enhanced by a wide range of colours.In shades of peacock blue, yellow, black or white, the feathers intertwine into precious marquetry on the dial and on the oscillating weight hemmed with gold and diamonds.
Coming in pink gold and black or white ceramic versions, the Dior VIII Grand Bal “Cancan” model is equipped with an automatic movement exclusive to the House of Dior, the “Dior inversé 11 1/2” calibre, featuring a patented and functional oscillating weight placed on top of the dial reproducing the swirl of a ball gown. Limited edition of 88 pieces.
