A Tesla Model S for $1.09
The Model S toy version will also help Tesla push the frontiers of direct sales and spur discussion the matter.
The Model S luxury electric P85D model will be available for $1.09 as opposed to the actual $100,000 version. The next generation of Tesla fans can find the hot wheels version of the mega-popular vehicle on shelves at target and Toys R’ Us across the country. The Palo Alto carmaker, founded by Los Angeles billionaire Elon Musk, has an outsized reputation in the auto industry despite selling, for now, pricey autos out of reach for most drivers.
The toy maker unveiled a new Hot Wheels Model S, and it’s expected to appeal to kids and kids at heart. Hot Wheels also previously sold a scale version of the Tesla Roadster. Hot Wheels was established by Mattel back in 1968 and over the years has attracted a cult following, with 300 million unit sales previous year. “Everyone relates to the vehicles”.
Typically, Mattel’s Matchbox brand does the more direct copies, while hot wheels does the wild and mad stuff. A feat shared by almost all Hot Wheels versions of vehicle brands, including the Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang. But wait, you might say, Wasn’t the Model S already designed?
The Model S toy version will also help Tesla push the frontiers of direct sales and spur discussion the matter. Consumers were willing to pay much higher than the actual price of the model, while it started off with a price tag on $1, its worth is now between USD $30 and $50.
Mattel does not yet have plans to produce a model X or model 3, but down said it hopes to forge a “deeper, broader relationship” with Tesla.
