Champion of traditional craftsmanship, Spain’s upscale fashion-jewellery brand calls for the hand fan to take up its legitimate place as a fashion accessory.
This season the fashion world has succumbed to the bullfighting look,La Morenitaheads the bill with a new look for one of Spanish culture’s most iconic items: the handheld fan.
Founded by Alma López after her designs for Paul&Joe triumphed in London, La Morenita is hitting the arena with its most emblematic piece: the jewel fan. Handmade in Spain with lacquered wood, it can be used as a necklace, decoration or charm, and was created to update and revamp the traditional fan that Alma always carries in her bag.
Now an object of desire that will draw attention to any look, this design boasts Queen Sofia of Spain as one of its wearers. A blend of materials and fusion of styles that range from street to romantic, La Morenita’s collections are aimed at a city woman who chooses trends on her own terms so she can stand out from the crowd. “The woman I’m looking at is authentic. She’s an aesthete and even a princess”, says Alma López.
The designer’s exclusive upmarket fashion jewellery collections are already a hit in Italy and the Middle East. Now Alma hopes to ‘fan out’ the brand’s potential in Japan and Latin America, is setting up a multilingual e-shop and redesigning the website.
