In Steve Mono’s Shoes

The Spanish bag and small leather goods brand presents a collection of sandals with which it continues to promote artisanal tradition as the only way to express exquisiteness and authenticity.

“Nowadays you hear a lot about slow fashion, slow life, slow everything! But I’ve always stood firmly behind trades and believed in brands that do only a few things, but they do them as best as they possibly can,” said Gonzalo Fonseca, founder of Steve Mono. In response to the hackneyed nature of current trends and their schizophrenic pacing, Gonzalo supports local talent and the use of high quality materials without ostentation.

The brand championing “classic leather goods for a modern lifestyle” is now gearing up to go beyond themade in Spain label.  In the not-too-distant future it will adopt the logo ‘Spanish crafters’, which it will use to project the artistic vision of Spanish leather expertise through the creation of specific collections. “We work with studios in Ubrique, Bilbao, Caceres, Palencia, Madrid… We’d like to share this trip we take across Spain every season and align ourselves with the skills and knowhow of every craftsman,” Gonzalo explains.

The first installment of this cultural road trip arrives in the form of a capsule collection of artisanal sandals for spring-summer 2016. Crafted in vegetable-tanned leather at a workshop in Torrejoncillo, Caceres, and featuring fittings prepared in Madrid, they will be available in sizes 40 to 46. Then in June and July they’ll present new designs for the SS’17 season at the Man trade shows in Paris and New York.
