Removing Wrinkles With Botulinum Toxin (Botox)

Brief history of botulinum toxin (Botox): In 2002, the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) approved the commercialization of botulinum toxin (Botox). In Spain was approved in 2004 for aesthetic purposes to be used only by a medical professional properly titled to apply these treatments and will only do with approved by the Spanish Medicine Agency (AEM) and must be performed in a medical consultation.

Botox was originally used exclusively for medical purposes, with varied causes to justify their prescription, there are now numerous studies on the medical uses that can be given to botox. These are some of their uses today:

Botox can be used to correct the statism
  • In Gynaecology, to treat urinary incontinence.
  • In Dermatology. To prevent excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in the armpits, palms and soles of the feet where very good results.
  • In Ophthalmology. It is mainly used to treat eye tics, blepharospasm and even sometimes correct strabismus.
  • In Neurology. Treatment of neuritic pain like migraines, neuralgia.

What is Botox?: It is a purified protein toxin produced by bacteria called «Clostridium Botulinum» which is not toxic and does not cause adverse side effects, and that when injected into a muscle in very small doses, causes relaxation of contractions of the muscle thereby preventing wrinkles appearallowing to maintain a natural expression. This treatment is indicated when wrinkles are already evident and it also as a preventive method to avoid the appearance thereof.

Botox is used to erase wrinkles

Using Botox to remove wrinkles:

  • With the infiltration of botox, we got the relaxation of muscles, improving the appearance, elasticity and skin quality, and thus the attenuation of wrinkles, which achieves the effect of facial rejuvenation without surgery.
  • A completely natural and healthy without side effects result.
  • Infiltration of botulinum toxin type A are performed, by using a fine needle into frown lines, forehead and crow’s feet.
  • The treatment is applied between 15 and 20 minutes, obtaining results of facial rejuvenation by removing wrinkles that will be visible from the fourth to the sixth day.
  • The results usually endure between 6 -9 months.
  • Any subsequent rest time is not required, so the return to normal life is immediate.
Botox can reduce excessive sweating

Botox to treat excessive sweating:

  • The treatment produces a significant improvement in excess sweating palms, armpits and soles of the feet.
  • It is an alternative to the solution proposed of surgery to treat axillary hyperhidrosis, but without the risk of it (scar or development of compensatory hyperhidrosis).
  • The treatment is performed under local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis (no hospitalization is required).

  • Where is it placed? What removes wrinkles? It is given as crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead. On these areas they act removing or reducing wrinkles.
  • How is it done? It is given witha very fine needle syringe, Botox is injected into the treatment area.
  • Is it a painful treatment? No, it feels only a small punctures as microinjection.
  • Is it a safe treatment? Yes, totally safe, whenever be administered properly.
  • Is immediate effect? No, the effect is not immediate, it will appear between four to six days after application.
  • How long does the result? It depends on each patient’s the usual 6 -9 months, although it must be said that there are people that lasts them more than others.
  • How often can I repeat the treatment? What is recommended twice a year, ieevery six months.
  • It can be combined with other treatment for wrinkles? Yes, there is no contraindication. It can be combined with hyaluronic acid for the rest of the wrinkles of the face or with other treatments.
  • Can be injected by any person? No, only a doctor can administer Botox, this is established by the Spanish Medicines Agency and the Ministry of Health.
