Brief history of botulinum toxin (Botox): In 2002, the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) approved the commercialization of botulinum toxin (Botox). In Spain was approved in 2004 for aesthetic purposes to be used only by a medical professional properly titled to apply these treatments and will only do with approved by the Spanish Medicine Agency (AEM) and must be performed in a medical consultation.
Botox was originally used exclusively for medical purposes, with varied causes to justify their prescription, there are now numerous studies on the medical uses that can be given to botox. These are some of their uses today:
What is Botox?: It is a purified protein toxin produced by bacteria called «Clostridium Botulinum» which is not toxic and does not cause adverse side effects, and that when injected into a muscle in very small doses, causes relaxation of contractions of the muscle thereby preventing wrinkles appearallowing to maintain a natural expression. This treatment is indicated when wrinkles are already evident and it also as a preventive method to avoid the appearance thereof.
