Miró and the Object

To make use of things found by divine chance: pieces of iron, stones, etc., just as I make use of a schematic sign drawn on paper by chance. That magical spark is the only thing that matters in art. The creative process of Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 ? Palma de Mallorca, 1983) throughout his oeuvre can be read through his relationship with objects, from the earliest paintings to the bronze sculptures, by way of the collages and assemblages.

Miró and the Object, an exhibition organised by ”la Caixa” Foundation and the Fundació Joan Miró and curated by William Jeffett, is the first to be exclusively devoted to Miró’s exploration of the object, tracing its presence and evolution through the different stages in the artist’s career.

The show enables visitors to discover the Miró who challenged painting and, precisely through the dialogue he established with the object, helped to bring about a sea change in conceptions of art. Miró and the Object features a total of 109 works, including paintings, ceramics and sculptures, from the collections of the Fundació Joan Miró and leading public and private collections in Europe and America, as well as a selection of the original objects that the artist collected throughout his life.

Coinciding with the exhibition, CaixaForum Madrid will also host an international symposium on Miró and twentieth-century sculpture.   Moreover, the occasion will be marked by the first live streaming broadcast of a guided tour of the exhibition. Miró and the Object, Venue: CaixaForum Madrid (Paseo del Prado, 36).
