New Edition of Ma Samaritaine Photo Exhibition

To immortalize the final moments of a Samaritaine that for now is immobile and dormant, six photographers were invited to explore its spaces. Their distinctive perspectives come together in the Ma Samaritaine exhibition. Ma Samaritaine 2015 is the third installment in a photography project designed to conserve the contemporary memory of the mythic building.

For the first edition in 2013, ten young photographers – five from France and five from other countries – were asked to propose their vision of the site. Last year, ten students and graduates of the Beaux-Arts school in turn viewed La Samaritaine through their lenses.

For the 2015 exhibition, six world-renowned photographers have shot their personal interpretations of La Samaritaine, offering a striking diversity of visions. Pierre-Olivier Deschamps investigates the function of color and composition in the architecture, while Sarah Moon plays with light and matter in her poetic vision of Paris.

Georges Rousse transforms the perception of space by coloring a room. They are joined by J.H. Engström, Michael Ackerman and the duo Yves Marchand & Romain Meffre, each proposing photographs in their distinctive styles.

These images of a Samaritaine that will never been seen again can be viewed in a pop-up gallery in the former La Samaritaine store at 67-73 rue de Rivoli. The exhibition runs until December 20, 2015.
