Danish Rattan Furniture

Publicado por:

This year Sika-Design has been inspired by the great Danish designers Arne Jacobsen, Nanna Ditzel and Viggo Boesen and their way of working with the rattan-material throughout the 40s, 50s and 60s. This means that some of the models in the collection now have skin on. Leaving the skin on gives a more rustic look. The collection also has new designs and new stylish fabrics, that brings a more sophisticated look to the summerhouse, winter garden or orangery:

«We have to say that the Classic collection is a collection that withstands the test of time. Sometimes we think that we should put our energy elsewhere, but the realization is that the customers keep up the demand for these models and they have for the past 30 years. This year we have decided to give the collection a facelift, and I am excited to introduce these great product news that will look great for many, many years to come», explains Louise Andreasen, CEO, Sika-Design.

The reason why the customers love this collection is that these pieces of furniture are so versatile because of the natural material rattan. The collection is perfect for summerhouses, winter gardens etc. as the rattan can handle both high and low temperatures as well as humidity and fluctuations in temperature. Rattan does not need any special attention. For daily cleaning it can be wiped with a cloth or brush.

According to Louise Andreasen, there are more reasons why classic is a timeless and popular collection: «Rattan is almost impossible to wear out. There is a common misconception that rattan furniture is made of bamboo, however rattan stems are solid whereas bamboo stems are hollow. This means that if the material is bent into shape, it is rattan. Unlike bamboo, rattan furniture is extremely hardwearing and can last for generations. This is why these models are often found in flea markets and antique shops and original designs are sold on auctions worldwide, as the frame can be in great shape even if the piece of furniture is more than 50 years old».
