Adidas’ CEO, H. Hainer, said in an interview with local press that the company will sell more than 500.000 soccer shirts of the German national team outside Europe during this year’s World Cup.
The current record is 300.000 shirts sold outside Europe. T-shirts on the go, and soccer ball too. In a separate article, adidas’ director of soccer noted that sales of the official match ball, Brazuca, sold officially at $160, have already beaten those of the Jabulani ball from the last World Cup by 30%. Recall that in 2010, the company noted on its conference call that 13 million footballs sold would be of the Jabulani design.
In paralelle news Pou Sheng and Belle, both major adidas and Nike retailers in China, have pointed to improving trends in April and May. Pou Sheng reported May 14 total sales up 11%, slightly slower than April’s trend on +12%, but on tougher compares, and better than +9% in Q1. Belle reported Q1 (Mar-May 14) sportswear LFL further accelerating, up 15% vs. Q4 13/14 at +7%.
