Adlens has launched its ground-breaking adjustable prescription eyewear ‘AdlensFocuss™’, the greatest advancement in optics in more than 50 years. Vision inevitably changes with age and people often need different strength glasses to see at near, intermediate and far distances.
Progressive lenses are an option but they have a restricted usable lens area. A GFK Roper Study has shown one-third of wearers say they have trouble adjusting to them with seven to eight percent of wearers saying they cannot adjust to them at all.
AdlensFocuss provides the benefits of a single vision lens – full frame viewing area – with the best features of a progressive lens – the ability to see at different distances. They are prescription glasses with proprietary technology; a unique flexible membrane that allows the power to be adjusted by simply turning small dials on the inside of the frames. AdlensFocuss lenses offer at least four times more viewing area than traditional progressive lenses and come encased in a fashion-forward frame from award-winning designer Blake Kuwahara.
“For those who face the prospect of wearing progressive lenses, AdlensFocuss is truly an amazing innovation and the only smart eyewear on the market that is actually designed to improve your eyesight,” said Dr Graeme MacKenzie, Adlens Director of Industry Affairs. “AdlensFocuss is the next generation for optometrists, the smart eyewear that provides precision vision on demand.”
Fixed and static lenses can only offer clear vision in a narrow range of viewing fields, something that is not ideal for people needing to see at different distances. AdlensFocuss can provide a practical solution as each pair comes with lenses whose power can be changed at the turn of a dial so that the user can see at whatever distance they need at that particular moment.
Adlens is already working on the next generation of AdlensFocuss focused on embedding electronics into the eyewear, straddling both the optical and consumer tech sectors. Adlens has defined an electronic architecture for the eyewear, adding the potential for new user interfaces, activity sensors, and heads-up display. The company is also exploring an auto-electronic adjustable focus system that will adapt the corrective power as eyes look at different objects.
