Did you Know that Stress Could Affect Your Teeth?

As a lot of people already know, stress or mental tiredness, provoked by the need of reaching a better performance at work or just in our lives, sometimes end up affecting physically and mentally our health. Some of the most common symptoms due to stress are reflected on emotions, for example, where anxiety and depression are sadly protagonist, or thoughts the fear of failure or problems to keep focused. But stress also affects the physical part of our selves through headaches, insomnia and other illnesses able to affect our oral health.

We tend to forget about our oral hygiene

Under stress the behaviour of people also changes and grinding our teeth or tight our jaw becomes, unconsciously in one of the most common problems in patients that visit de dentist due to this issue. However, this is not the one and only inconvenient that stress will provoke in our teeth. These problems make smokers to smoke more or even the alcohol intake is increased, two damaging effects to our gums and our mouth. Moreover, during this stage of accumulated nervousness we tend to forget about our oral hygiene and this, inevitably, will lead us to get bacterial plaque and the possibility to get caries is totally increased.
