Victoire de Castellane, the Creative Director of Dior Joaillerie, looked to Christian Dior’s childhood at Granville, on the Normandy coast, for her inspiration in designing a new high jewellery collection. Twelve unique pieces capturing the spirit of childish and creative games, «as if stickers were put together spontaneously, without any preconceived constraints,» the designer explains.
These children’s games are precious, and the memory evoked by the designer saw this playfulness transformed into colored stones, such as green beryl, peridot, morganite, aquamarine, tanzanite, chrysoberyl, pink tourmaline and rubellite.
Victoire de Castellane’s favorite colored stones are all here. «They come to life,» she says, as she shows off their sparkles and nuances. «Color plays a starring role. The way in which they’re assembled creates a sense of equilibrium that means that no one color dominates another. So that each one has an equal chance to shine.»
These plays of rhythm and construction appear to render the jewels mobile, and it took all the ingenious savoir-faire of the best haute joaillerie ateliers in Paris to reproduce this movement through the lexicon of gems and precious metals.
In the continuing spirit of paying homage to Christian Dior’s Normandy childhood, Victoire de Castellane has also designed the D de Dior “Granville” collection, nine timepieces in white, yellow or rose gold. These new creations, with their joyous combinations, are an echo of the Granville carnival’s festive atmosphere, which colored the couturier’s childhood, as he designed costumes for himself and his friends for the occasion.
