The champagne that went to the moon

Publicado por:
«Destination Moon» , Tintín.

One of mine childhood memories that I keep in my memory is the comic book Tintin: Destination Moon in wich appears the first bottle of champagne I saw, and that to the collectionists, fans of comics, at least, it will make them dream.

Hergé, Tintin’s father, loved the champagne and especially the brand Brochet-Hervieux , an old brand that the new generation renamed: Champagne Vincent Brochet. The  Tintin’s father, was inspired by the Brochet’s bottles to illustrate their albums. In fact, in 1953 the Champagne Brochet-Hervieux went to the moon included in the comic «Destination Moon» published by Casterman, but in Spain it wasn’t published until 1957. In the picture, we can see the bottle exploting on the Captain Haddock’s face and he finishes swallowing the cork. ‘Objective Moon’, a name that connects you to the entire universe.

Henri Brochet came up for sale a limited number of bottles whose label bore the vignette number 6 on page 55 ‘Objectif Lune’  in a numbered edition of 3000 copies under its own brand: Domaine Brochet-Hervieux.

Today, Vincent Brochet is a small vigneron carrying on their labels the symbol RM (Récolectant-manipulant), that is tos ay, he produces wine with the grapes from their own vineyard in Écueil, a qualified Premier Cru in the Vallée de Marne. They mainly  work with varieties such as Pinot Noir and supplementing with Chardonnay, although the Marne la Vallée is the best place suited for Pinot Meunier.

Despite the passing of time it keeps showing a great respect for the care of the vineyard and uses 45% of reserve wines in the blend to ensure the constancy of his style (the usual for Champagne is about 10-15% of wines reserve). It also adds a low dosage (which here is called expedition liqueur) at around 5% gr / l, characterized by being champagnes with vivacity and freshness.

Hergé dreamed bring the champagne to the the moon and choose a craftsman as Henri Brochet who dreamed that his name reached the top, both made their dream.
