After five days and nights crossing the Pacific, the Solar Impulse flight has completed its most challenging mission so far. The 8th leg of the Solar Impulse round-the-world journey was considered to be the project’s «moment of truth», so it is with great joy that we can now celebrate success.
Pilot André Borschberg endured a flight with very little sleep, but in completing the task, he made aviation history, as well as setting a new world record for a solo endurance flight.
As a main partner, OMEGA is both thrilled and proud of everything that has been achieved so far. Although the plane is powered only by the sun, it’s clear that the passion and determination from everyone involved is driving the ongoing progress of this entire project.
President of OMEGA, Stephen Urquhart, remarked after the landing, «OMEGA congratulates André and the entire Solar Impulse team. We have always had an emotional and technical involvement in this project, so we are very proud to see the flight complete its challenging journey over the Pacific to Hawaii. It’s a testament to the pioneering spirit of everyone involved.»
